Kilifi, Kenya

Out on the water

Kayaking: We have two kayaks that you are welcome to use out on the creek during your stay

Kitesurfing: Salty's Kitesurfing Village is based on the white sands of Bofa Beach with all the gear and support packages you need, whether you are a complete beginner or a pro kitesurfer. Beginners can book a Kite course with a dedicated and friendly instructor; for those with experience you can rent equipment or bring your own.

Sailing & Skiing: 3° South is an excellent water sports company based at Mnarani Club, a very short walk down the beach from Mwangati House. They are an RYA-registered training centre specialising in sailing and windsurfing courses, teaching from beginner to advance levels, with waterskiing, wake-boarding and tubing on offer too.

Scuba Diving: 3° South also have a fantastic Scuba Diving school, running PADI courses and exploration trips for families and children aged 6+. They have varied dive sites from caves to wrecks, where you can get to see the best sea creatures our waters have to offer.

Snorkelling: If you aren't dive qualified, there are lots of coral heads to explore with a mask and snorkel. A great day trip for snorkelling is to Kuruwetu beach, just 25 minutes south of Kilifi, which is home to a privately funded marine reserve. The snorkelling in the lagoon is second to none, and lunch at the Vipingo Beach Bar makes it a fantastic day out. You can also take a morning snorkelling trip out to Bofa beach reef with a local Dhow and crew.

Dhows: A beautiful way to end a day on Kilifi Creek is with a sundowner dhow cruise. You can be picked up from the beach below Mwangati House, or from other spots on the creek, for an evening cruise from around 4.30 - 7.30 pm. This is perfect for enjoying some drinks and bitings while you watch the sun set over the creek, and the Carmine Bee-easters, majestic Egrets and Spoon Bills flock in to roost on bird island.
